17:11 Small Group Ministry
“…These were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.” (Acts 17:11)
What made the Berean Christians “more noble”? The verse plainly tells us that they were noble because they received the Word with great eagerness and anticipation and then dug deep to study it out for themselves. It is our desire that the people of Heritage would eagerly anticipate the weekly proclamation of the Word of God on Sunday’s! However, we don’t want it to stop there. It must not stop there! Therefore, on Sunday nights we get together in small groups to further chew on and digest the scriptures taught corporately.
However, this is only the first half of our goal for our 17:11 small group ministry. According to the greater context of the early church pictured in Acts, there is no doubt in my mind that these Berean brothers and sisters ‘examined the Scriptures daily’…TOGETHER! There is unbelievable fellowship that takes place inside these small groups. It is a fellowship that leads to the efficient practice of the “one another” commands of NT Scripture.
